Apple dumplings

A delightful, easy, personal dessert that tops pie! People thought this was made with puff pastry, the crust winds up so delightfully layered and fluffy. Definitely not a health food: lots of butter here!

Ingredients

170g flour

1 tsp sugar

0.5 tsp salt

7 tbsp butter

0.25 cup icewater

2 large apples

4 tbsp dark brown sugar

0.5 tsp cinnamon

0.25 tsp nutmeg

1 tbsp butter

Preparation

Mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the butter and mix together with ice water until it just comes together.

Wrap in foil and refrigerate for an hour or more.

When ready, preheat oven to 375F. Peel and core the two apples. Cut in half, and thin out the inside to make a thinner shell. Chop up the pieces you cut out.

Mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Roll out the crust to a 12-by-12-inch rectangle. Cut into four 6-by-6-inch squares.

Place the apple shells in the centers and fill with the brown sugar mix. Put the chopped apples under the apple shells. Top each with a tiny pat of butter if desired.

Bring together the corners in the middle and pinch sealed. Place into a baking shape.

Bake for 40-45 minutes, until light brown. Serve warm with ice cream!
