Italian sandwich spread

I have no idea if anyone eats this or anything like it in Italy, but it was inspired by foods that are considered Italian-style in the US. There are many ways of making this, and the first time I had it, a friend made something similar out of leftover meatloaf. I enjoyed it enough, that I make it fresh!

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 jar marinara sauce

1 yellow onion

2 cloves garlic

1 tsp oregano

0.5 cup breadcrumbs

salt

pepper

Preparation

Sautee the minced onion on a tbsp of vegetable oil until softened. Stir in the crushed garlic and heat for 30 seconds. Pour in the marinara sauce and add the oregano.

Mash in the raw ground beef (or meatloaf leftovers, if that is what you are staring with). Simmer until the beef is cooked through.

Thicken to paste consistency with breadcrumbs.

Spread onto sandwich bread, and top with cheese. Broil until cheese is bubbly. Serve warm.
