Simple chocolate cake


King Arthur Flour's simple cake pan cake recipe. So simple that I did not make it, a twelve-year-old did!

Ingredients
1.5 cups flour
0.75 cup sugar
0.25 cup cocoa
0.25 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp white vinegar
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 cup cold water

frosting:
1.5 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
0.5 cup half and half

Preparation
Preheat oven to 350F. Line the bottom of your 9-inch cake pan with parchment paper. Lightly spray with oil.

Whisk dry ingredients together in a bowl. Whisk vanilla, vinegar, and water in a separate bowl.

Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until combined. Pour the batter into the cake pan.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, until toothpick inserted at center comes out clean.


Frost the cake, if desired. Heat the half and half in the microwave, until nearly boiling. Add the chocolate chips. Allow to sit for a minute, then mix until all chips are dissolved. Pour onto middle of the cake and spread carefully.
